Enjoying The Break...... and The Nice Weather.... for now

Well just chilling here at work its about 2:30 Denver Time. The weather is a nice 80 degrees and sunny out side, but unfortunately I'm stuck in here until 6... : ( Well one of my photos made "The Wall" the "Smoking Kills" one. Excited about that. Also excited about the 23-3 destruction of the lowly Oakland Raiders. My Broncos are 3-0 and have a tough game ahead at home against Dallas. I hope we can win and continue our dominance!

My next quarters class schedule looks like this

Portfolio Exploration-Cynthia Holling Morris-Wed-7:30am-11:30am

Portfolio Design & Production-Todd Dobbs-Wed-12:30-4:30pm

Web Photographic Port I-John Fellers-Thu-12:30-4:30pm

Portfolio, Portfolio, Portfolio! That's what it comes down to in the working art world. You must have a good portfolio, with great work in the portfolio, and great presentation of the portfolio.

Starting this process I just purchased some Moab kayenta photo matte paper. 50 double sides sheets for $50 from Buy.com. Its great paper, and its cheap! As a student I need that.

Also I'm sort of in a bind now, i haven't decided if i want my portfolio to be Travel, or Advertising/Commercial. According to my portfolio teachers I've already sort of committed to Travel but with this last Advertising/Commercial class I had, i believe i had some really strong work so it's hard. I do love travel, and i love the idea of taking pictures well traveling and making money doing it. I'll keep you updated on that....

Another event that happened over the weekend was my re watching of the movie About Schmidt with Jack Nicholson. It's a great movie and one of my favorites. I love the message portrays. There's also a book which I haven't read yet. If you haven't seen this movie or read the book I advise you do. There's actually parts in the movie that are filmed right here in Denver. Who would have known hah? Big time movies being filmed in Denver.

Well im about typed out now. I'm going to enjoy my limon lays chips, and my sprite and find something else to do....

Adios.

Done!....... With the quarter! One week off of school next week!

Well i am finally done with the quarter! Exciting! The weather right now in Denver?....... Not so exciting.. : ( 44 degrees, overcast and raining...... And i had a gas leak in my house yesterday and had to have the firefighters come, and we had no heater last night because we had to turn off the gas. That was no fun... and cold! The winter is coming on!

Alot of things have happened since i last posted. One unfortunately was our car breaking down which still hasn't been fixed. We now have to rely on public transportation (which isn't bad in Denver) and bikes (my girlfriend just got a new one last week... Its pretty and perfect for her!... She looks soo cute on it!) I kind of like riding public transportation. I always had to because since I moved to Denver in late September of 2007 i didn't have a car. Also when i might my love she never had a car, so we would always ride the bus and light rail together, or just walk. It's sort of humbling in a sense that you get to slow down and focus and absorb whats around you. Look at people and observe them, and also just observe nature and things that you really can't pay attention when driving. That's also the same thing when your riding a bike.... Also the Broncos did destroy the Browns 27-6 though. That was exciting!

So I will be posting up my final 2 photos for advertising, and in my opinion I think i set out to do, and i think my results were pretty similar with my vision in the beginning. I also submitted 3 photos for "The Wall" which is basically a photography exhibit of students work, which students submit at the end of the quarter. The work is from projects and assignments students have turned in during their classes through the quarter. I submitted "Honest Ade Limeade" "Smoking Kills" and "Big Red". Those are all work you've seen in my previous posts but just to refresh your memory I will post them up again.

Finished up my survey class earlier today. We just had to turn in a CD of are final 7 "approved images", turn in are networking contacts paper, and do a brief oral presentation of the contacts that we collected over the quarter. I did "ok" but could have done better.... : / Well i think that's about it for now... Off to work at the library until 10pm.... A whole week off from school next week... Yay!!!!

Good Evening, and Good Night!

Week 10 of The Quarter/Got Alot Done!

Well it's Week 10 of the quarter and I have lifted some monkeys off my back for sure. I finished the first shot of the headphones, and thought I was pretty pleased with the results. I did the shot, and all the post production and type in the ad. It's the first of 2 shots. Friday I am shooting my co-worker Jon in the headphones, so I hope that's as successful as my first shot.

I also have a couple other shots from my Vegas trip that I'm going to use for my Survey of Photography Class. speaking of Survey class Wednesday (9/16) at 3:20pm is a critical time. In Survey class The Portfolio Committee (The Portfolio Instructors for Photography) are looking at our 7 shots and giving us feedback. I gotta be dressed nice, clean shaven, confident and ready!

Well that's about it for now... Didn't do much on the weekend but chill, and watch and amazing Broncos game. Go Broncos! Brandon Stokely caught a tip pass and ran it 87yds for the last minute game winning touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals! Broncos 1-0!

I'll posting the 2nd shot for advertising soon.. Wish me luck!

Adios.

The School Quarter is Almost Over but My Busyness is Not!

Well ill start off on a good note. My advertising class/teacher loved the smoking kills shot with the skeleton. While i'm talking about advertising class, my ad campaign proposal is complete. I am doing 3 shots advertising the Audio Technia M30 headphones. One shot will be a product shot, one a portrait of someone wearing the headphones, one of someone djing with the headphones. Wish me luck! (a pic of the actual headphones is above.)

We had a house warming party over the weekend that was a fun occasion! Didn't take any photos but it was still fun! Well..... As i said in my headline The end of the quarter for school is nearing but my busyness is not. I have a lot of networking contacts to do for survey of photography class but I am almost wrapped up on my submissions which i have 6 photos approved for my portfolio, just need 1 more. I will most likely pull it from my trip to Vegas I took a few months ago. I pulled 1 that was approved and is above(the escalator with the red orangish lights around it). I will have the other images from the Vegas trip up soon.

Ciao...

16th St. Mall, Denver/Advertising, Museum of Contemporary Art-Denver

Well over the past week I have been pretty busy! Luckily this past Saturday night I was able to fit in a fun night. I went to Beta Nightclub in Denver with my Dad and girlfriend, where I have been in the past, and shot DJ's in the past. It was pretty fun I saw Michael Fuller who was good, and Donald Glaude who was not so good and kept playing the same beat the whole night but nonetheless it was a fun night!

Sunday I headed down to the 16th St. Mall and shot for my survey class. There's some interesting people down there I must say. I particularly got to photography what i call Robo-Man. He scares people on the mall, makes robo-sounds, makes funny comments and jokes, and acts out The Matrix Scenes. He was quite amusing. I also shot some homeless musicians, and gladly donated to them in trade for them allowing me to take their photo.

Advertising

POWER

We had been assigned the "Power Assignment" and for this we are using tactics previous advertisers have used to show power in their ad. You can do this in a variety of different ways. I chose to do overexaggerate something and make it more than it really is. I did an anti-smoking ad and I will let the photo speak for itself.

Tuesday afternoon in Advertising Class we took a trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art which was fascinating. The architecture of the interior and exterior was amusing. We had to do an on location shoot of anything we chose (model, product, architecture etc.) inside or outside of the building. I didn't have an idea coming in but figured something would pop up. I saw a bottle of limeade, and some limes available for purchase at the cafe they had. I decided to do an ad for Honest Ade Limeade! I believe it turned out well, and it was all natural lighting shot on a mirror surface. Check it out!

Well that's all i have for this weeks episode but tune in next week for more exciting adventures!
