Visual Metaphor

Well visual metaphor... What is a visual metaphor? We were assigned this assignment in Advertising Photography class and I had an idea that i wanted to execute but unfortunately i was unable to finish it. I kind of threw this together at this last minute, and of course when you do that, your results are usually poor. So I decided to show you that i'm not perfect, (no one is) and you learn from your mistakes and improve on them. I will reshoot and execute my original idea and you will see that in weeks to come...

Anyways this idea I was trying to represent is to not let money hold/tie you down. It wasn't executed well as I said but why not share it with you guys. The advertisement would be for US Bank.

Definition of visual metaphor-A visual metaphor, also called a pictorial metaphor, is a metaphor in which something (the metaphor's "target") that is presented visually is compared to something that belongs to another category (the metaphor's "source") of things than the first, also presented visually. As in verbal metaphors, at least one feature or association is "mapped" from the source to the target. Often, a whole set of (interrelated) features is mapped from target to source. Visual/pictorial metaphors are used often in advertising, but also in political cartoons and art films.

Ciao...

Railroads

I've always been fascinated with the beauty of railroad lots and the industrial grungy feel to them. I decided to take a trip to one right by my house, and i got a couple shots but unfortunately I was kicked out before I had the chance to shoot more than 9 photos. Oh well i suppose i must find a better time to go, or somehow get permission. Anyways here are two shots that I got.

-I will be uploading some color versions of these shortly.

Glowing!

Well with the inspiration of my passion for dance music and its culture (particularly techno, electronic house, and trance) and some recent DJ's that i've shot in the past i put these together in photoshop. Let me know what you think. Oh... and Dance on!!!!

The Dj's in the photos are Unknown DJ #1 and 2, DJ Kostas K, Armin Van Buuren, Funkagenda, and Darren Emerson.

First Attempt At Shooting Beer!

Well I had an assignment in Advertising Photography Class to so a billboard ad. The only requirements were it had to be 2:1 ratio as far as size. So i did my 5x10, 5 inches wide by 10 inches tall. I decided to shoot a beer ad for Dos Equis Amber. I figured I would choose a bottle that hasn't been shot real often as opposed to Coors Light.

Might I mention this is my first time shooting a beer ad, and i was a bit nervous! With the use of the studio at school, lighting equipment and of course Photoshop this is what I came out with. I have to say I was pretty impressed if do say so myself.

I also had a chance to go to Brian Marks studio in Denver. He does beautiful work, and has a humongous studio in Denver, that is something I one day dream of having. I traveled with the Advertising Photography class their. It was really interesting and I learned alot!

Well i guess i'll go back to being bored because im sitting here at work in the AIC Library and it is not busy at all because today is Institute Day, which is like an in service, or staff day where there are no classes..... Still had to work.... Bummer : (

Oh well until next time, enjoy life, and never give up!

Ciao.
